Support and Advocacy

Support

We provide access to appropriate, quality support services for people living with and impacted by HIV and AIDS. We promote peer to peer support activities, HIV case management, counselling services, and facilitate referrals and collaboration with partner organisations in health and community support.

We provide support and advocacy for people living and impacted by HIV. We seek to increase awareness of and access to HIV treatment options. We promote relevant research programs and the HIV/AIDS commemoration initiative.

We promote safe and accessible events for HIV-positive people. In this way, we are contributing to the creation of a safe community through eliminating stigma and discrimination based on sexuality and HIV status.

We offer a range of programs and services to help community members impacted by HIV/AIDS build resilience and improve their health and wellbeing. Services currently offered include:

Case Management

We provide case management for people living with HIV. We can support you through a variety of challenges that life presents, including accessing healthcare services, housing, and government services. Case management can involve supporting you to attend medical appointments and coordination between various health and social service providers. We can advocate on your behalf in applying for housing and financial support through partner agencies.

We provide individual advocacy services and can help you respond to any instances of unfair treatment, including linking you to legal support where appropriate.

Peer Support

Peer support provides you with an opportunity to meet, talk to, and learn from other people living with HIV. We provide peer to peer, individual and group, information sessions about issues relevant to people living with HIV, including latest treatments, legal issues, stigma & discrimination, mental health & wellbeing, sexual health and HIV prevention,. We believe that social inclusion is vital for good physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Peer Support social gatherings can provide the opportunity to open up about issues that only other positive people understand. Meridian continues to develop a range of programs to support our community. For regular updates subscribe to the client services newsletter by emailing [email protected]

Advocacy

Beyond the individual, we are fierce advocates for our communities. We stand up and raise our voices when we see discrimination and injustice, and we take action to ensure the needs of our communities are being met. We have a long history in HIV advocacy from the very beginning of the epidemic, and the organisation’s inception in 1983. We undertake activities that seek to respond to the current issues in HIV policy and advocacy, as well as future challenges and opportunities. Our work focuses on a broad range of issues as they impact on both the prevention of HIV and other STIs, as well as care and support for people living with HIV.
